Job Description

We are looking for an experienced commercial investigator to complement the ChaseWaterford team tasked with conducting comprehensive and complex investigations for a selection of local and international clients.

Focusing predominately on Intellectual Property (IP) infringement and counterfeit related investigations, the investigator will also be utilised to undertake a wide range of confidential and due diligence styled enquiries.

The investigator will be expected to work alongside contracted investigation service providers in a range of countries on the African continent and at times lead and provide guidance to subcontracted investigators to ensure timeous results and delivery of findings.

The position will suit a seasoned investigator with a proven track record in successfully following investigations through to prosecution. Furthermore, the investigations team requires an individual who is ‘hands on’ and who can adapt to the differing environments, laws and customs in various African countries. The investigator must appreciate the sensitive nature of the work and pursue investigations in accordance with local laws and in strict compliance with the requirements of the FCPA and UKBA to ensure all investigations are conducted ethically and professionally.

The position is not desk bound and will require extensive (short-notice) travel and extended periods of time working remotely in somewhat challenging environments.

Candidate Profile

Ideally the investigator will be an experienced law enforcement officer or intelligence officer with at least five years’ (recent) experience who has worked alongside entities such as Interpol, The World Customs Organisation and International Law Enforcement Agencies.

The investigator will be an accomplished interviewer and well versed in investigation methodology, tactics, and possess the ability to clearly communicate and present casework at all levels.

Candidates should be methodical and logical, with an ability to demonstrate an understanding of the need to assure the integrity of evidence through meticulous record keeping.

Mandatory/pre-requisites:

  • At least 5 years commercial investigation or police investigation experience,
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or Professional Certified Investigator (PCI)®.
  • PSIRA Registered (Grade A and B minimum).
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence.
  • Possess a valid passport.
  • Ability to obtain an SAPS clearance certificate.

Candidates must possess the following attributes:

  • Must be fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Capable of compiling comprehensive investigation reports.
  • Possess strong team work and leadership skills.
  • Have mental alacrity, and a can-do approach to work.
  • Useable computer literacy skills and knowledge of investigation software applications such as i2/i-Sight is beneficial.
  • Needs to be trustworthy and professional, and place extreme importance on confidentiality.
